Qualifications required but no equivalent?

Just a quickie, a job was advertised and a requirement was
5 GCSEs grade A-C, (must have maths and english)
no mention of any equivalent qualifications CSE, O level etc but on a similar job they have advertised an eqivalent qualification.
Are they discriminating against people who hold O levels and CSE?
the job is with Trading Standards

Have you asked them if they will accept equivalent qualifications?0

It is more likely that the person posting the job didn't know much about 'old money', and as long as you are capable they won't quibble.0

to me that means you need 5 passes so in CSE's that would be a grade 1 as that is the same as a C grade O Level and then obviously in the two subjects that list Maths and EnglishJust a quickie, a job was advertised and a requirement was

Given to have done O Levels you are most likely 40 or older and the fact they are asking for GCSEs suggests it is an entry level role they may just think that most the applicants are going to be under 40. Likewise they technically say A-C so if you got above that and an A* you wouldn't qualify.
I doubt you will find a role where equiv qualifications aren't acceptable even if it isn't explicitly stated on the advert. I have applied for many jobs in the past that asked for GCSEs as per the role you are looking at and though I did sit GCSEs I haven't listed them on my CV for 15 years or more and have never been asked to reconfirm I have GCSE english grade A-C0
