P800 confusion

in Cutting tax
I've just received one of these for the first time, and it states that I owe tax (only about £200) because I was employed by two employers at the same time apparently giving me the full tax free allowance....
I'm confused because I was paid by a supply agency for about 2-3 months, and then by my council when I went onto contract (I'm a teacher). At no point was I being paid by both parties so wouldn't the tax thing balance out? Also, I've been unemployed since July after being made redundant so have had no income at all.
It isn't a lot of money, I know this, but I'm not 100% sure if they are correct in saying I owe it.
Any insight/advice?... Thanks in advance.

Only if you conveyed the information between the employers by taking a P45 from one to the other? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Yep, my "new" employer got the p45 from the agency. This is what is baffling me!As of 30/12/10: Mortgage [STRIKE]28,000[/STRIKE] 26,000 SLoan[STRIKE] 9,000[/STRIKE] 7000, CC [STRIKE]8000[/STRIKE] 5020, car [STRIKE]21,000[/STRIKE] 16,000. Total [STRIKE]66,000[/STRIKE] 46,015.67

So does the total income on the P800 agree with the P45 pay figure + the P60 figure ('this employment') from the council? Also, of course, the commensurate tax deducted figures?
If they do - then I'm a bit stuck for ideas. You can post up the P800 figures ...... but I can't see they will add to inspiration if the basic input is correct.
You're certain you didn't complete a P46 initially if the P45 was a bit late - as agencies are wont to do.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Righto, they did add up and I was still baffled so I bit the bullet and rang them and got no further - it just seems that from going from agency to supply resulted in slightly more money on that month and that's done it. Never mind! Thanks for you help though!:)As of 30/12/10: Mortgage [STRIKE]28,000[/STRIKE] 26,000 SLoan[STRIKE] 9,000[/STRIKE] 7000, CC [STRIKE]8000[/STRIKE] 5020, car [STRIKE]21,000[/STRIKE] 16,000. Dubious - unless you had 2 pay points in the same tax month? Even then - if you were on a cumulative tax code (647L ??) that should have absorbed any differentiation accurately. As you're out £1000 (@ 20% = £200)
But I am fresh out of ideas if no P46 was created at the 'supply' start up. The P60 does presumably show pay and tax for the 'previous' employment? Which is the final thing I can think of!If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Yea it does seem a lot...and I do have two tax codes for that year
747L and 647L. I think I'll send everything off and hope for a nice surprise!As of 30/12/10: Mortgage [STRIKE]28,000[/STRIKE] 26,000 SLoan[STRIKE] 9,000[/STRIKE] 7000, CC [STRIKE]8000[/STRIKE] 5020, car [STRIKE]21,000[/STRIKE] 16,000. Total [STRIKE]66,000[/STRIKE] 46,015.67

Where is the 747L from? As that is the problem if it's been operated at the latter end. It's the Code for this year - not 10-11. And is exactly £1000 too much .......... which, at 20% is your £200.
The P800 presumably shows a personal allowance of £6475? Which is where the correct code of 647L comes from.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
