Tesco Vitamins, 3 for 2 offer

I was buying a shipping order of vitamins and supplements in Tesco last week, as I live abroad and was stocking up. They had the same offer on most of their own brand products, but I noticed that their offer stated that the cheapest item would be free. I bought the following:
3 x multi-vit + iron @ 3.56 each
3 x vit B complex @ 2.50 each
3 x vit C @ 2.70 each
6 x cod liver oil caps @ 1.05
It occurred to me that I was going to have to put these through as four separate transactions, or lose out big time. I did this and the total saving was £10.86. If I had put them all through together, I would only have saved £5.25, a difference of £5.61!
