applying for job in bank but poor credit rating?

I have been working in a bank as an advisor through an agency for the last 3 months. The agency supposedly done credit checks and disclosures for us before we started and I got through them fine. Now the bank have offered me a permanent contract which I am really pleased about but now have to go through the checks again. I have a form to fill out detailing my financial position, which is fine now but I had a trust deed years ago. I went into it in 2003 and it was on my file up until about a year or so and I am really worried it will cause a problem. Over the last couple of years I have been able to get credit although I am very careful as never want to get into my previous situation. I did get refused a tesco credit card recently which is annoying as I never even wanted one (was helping my mum with a recommend a friend thing). Apart from that though my finances are in order. I'm just getting worried now and thinking things like perhaps the agency's checks werent as thorough. Not sure if its in my head or I have genuine reason to worry. Any advice please.

My partner works in the HR department of a bank in the area that concerns you.
You will be credit checked and references will be taken. The most important thing is to be totally honest on the application form. If you have had credit issues in the past, then declare them. As long as you can explain the circs it will not necessarily be held against you. If you omit things then you WILL be found out and your application WILL be rejected.
Your main concern is, as you say, what if the bank checks are more stringent than the agencies? In the case of my partner's bank...if you failed their checks you would not get the job and your temp contract would be terminated too
Consider checking your credit record (via a cashback site of course, to make a few pennies on the way) , make sure it is correct and then least your application will be in sync with what the bank will see.

Thanks for the advice. I went to my team manager and filled everything in, including the details of my trust deed and my discharge letter. I have been told it should'nt be a problem as it was nearly 9 years ago since I went into it. I just have to wait on the checks now and pray they are okay. A bit worrying if they are different to the agency's although I don't see why I would fail. Just getting refused recently thats gave me the jitters.0

My ex was a bankruptee who had had significant debts written off by a bank and 7 years later she then started working for that same bank and passed the credit checks with no problem.0

Credit history is only held by the reference agencies for 6 yrs anyway so the OP should be in the clear.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0
