When I joined I was told within a month they want me to progress, but I am dedicated and a hard worker.
Be prepared that if you train to be a Team Leader, it may not be for the department you want and you can be put anywhere in the store. If you train to be a Department manager they can allocate you to any store in the region.

Thanks for all your replies and advice. I might just apply for a job with Sainsburys and see how it goes.

Sainsburys were the best employers I ever worked for.

However, it was back in the early 90's and I was a student but they were very accomodating when I needed time off. The pay was pretty good too.

I have always had a good work ethic and when I finished uni and was at a bit of a loss on what to do (there was a recession back then too!) Sainsburys asked if I wanted to work toward their management programme, though I declined.

Don't know if they are still as good an employer as back then though.

And if their own branded foodstuff of today is an indicator then they may well have gone downhill.

Would be a shame.
