install a software on my computer in exchange for £10 voucher??? Safe?

Just received an invitation from survey company to install a software on my computer in exchange for £10 voucher. Is it safe? Will be grateful if you could advise or share some experience.

    It was Ipsos
  • I have had the same from Ipsos but I haven't installed the software. I guess with these types of software, they won't take your personal details as such, but may monitor your internet activity? Or it might use your bandwidth for certain internet activities? Either way, don't think £10 is worth it.
  • I've read the T&Cs from a similar project with either Valued Opinions or Globaltestmarket.

There’s a lot I’ll do for an amazon voucher, but I’ve never taken this up. They say they don’t take any personal data but the thought of having something on my computer monitoring my internet activity (even though I never ever look at anything dodgy!) I just didn’t like at all. I don’t like the thought of the software sending bits of information silently in the background while I’m browsing away.
  • The risk is low and there is probably much bigger risks that people are running and not getting a £10 for every day.

Personally I wouldn't install unknown software thats going to be constantly running in the background but more for system stability/ conflict reasons than data security.

Thanks. I turned down their "generous" offer...

I got this through ipsos. I downloaded the software and installed it but it didn't run on my computer. There is no icon on the bottom of the screen and there is no process running that I don't recognise. I guess it is being blocked by my computer settings which I haven't checked.

But I think I pass on this offer too. £10 is not good enough. If they go above £1000 I will consider it and even then I will surf carefully for the duration of this trial.
  • I too have had similar invitations without taking up the offer, imagine the senario if you were unlucky enough to be a victim of some type of online bank fraud at the same time as you were running the installed software. It would be a 'hard one' to explain away to your banks security department IMHO.
