That is really a 'How long is a piece of string?' question.

    Depends on so many factors.

What tariff you are on - how warm you like the house - people at home all day or working - how well insulated your house is - baths or showers - how many in house - etc etc.

The average family spends about £1,000 a year on gas and electricity so that might give you a start point.

The average gas consumption is supposed to be 20,500kWh a year which will normally cost £500-£600 a year.

However whenever you post somthing like this you will get some people saying they only pay £20 a month for gas and others £100 a month.

3 bed semi detached house with people home every night, heating not on much during the day as dh has a lower chill threshhold than me...

We are 60 quid a month and I grudge it wholeheartedly. We only heat the place to 19.6 degrees when we are home,we have double glazing, loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.

If we had a chimney in our house I'd have a woodstove with backboiler, at least it's carbon neutral...
