Restrictions on job applications...

Over the last 18 months, i have twice been offered jobs sunject to references and had them withdraw - the first one because the company i worked for did not give personal references and the second was due to unsatisfactory references, which i know to not be the case.
The first company that withdrew the offer, later contacted to tell me that i was not able to even apply for another job there!
I recently applied for another post at the second company, for a very similar job in which i met every specification and submitted a very thorough application - yet i have not heard about any interview.
Im not saying i should be given the job without question! But i am slightly wary of being passed over due to an earlier post being withdrawn. Any ideas or anyone had any similar experiences?
Thanks.

Lots of companies dont give personal references and employers know this. Thing is its upto them to decide what is satisfactory or not.
You could ask an old line manager or colleague at the old firm if they would give you a personal reference, to go with the other one.Or you could give other references from outside the previous employer to a new employer.
You can only try your best with this.0 -
Playing devil's advocate here but say I am in HR of company 2 and I receive an application from someone who we have offered a position to in the past but their references weren't satisfactory. Am I going to even bother inviting them for interview because even if they interview well their references aren't satisfactory? It would just be a waste of time.
