Hi all
Has anyone ever delivered yellow pages for an extra money earner?
Just wondering how much this pays etc and what the overall experience is like.
thanks

I've not done it recently but I did do it about 20 years ago and decided I would never ever do it again.
We were a bit strapped for cash for a holiday so OH and I decided to get a round each (1000 books). We ended up with 2000 we had to get up to the first floor of a maisonette. You may think that 2000 is not that many but believe me, 2000 in a one bedroom flat is a lot and they were so heavy in those days. We had yellow pages piled high all around the bedroom and living room. To top it all, we also ended up getting probably the roughest areas near us and got chased by dogs, angry people, you name it.
You have to knock on each door to try to deliver the book (can be quite scary if you've got a bad area!) and if no one is home, you have to put the book in a plastic bag and leave it out of sight of the road.
We had an old marina bread van at the time (I do remember that OH had to pull up quite quickly going down one road. The books slid and were so heavy, they burst open the back doors of the van and some fell out of the back - thankfully nothing was behind us!). It was just like Only Fools and Horses - we still laugh about it now.
The books are quite a bit thinner and lighter now than they were in those days.
We got paid £160 between us and had a great time in Ibiza with the extra money but every time we get our copy of yellow pages, we always feel for the person who delivered it.
We're glad we did it but I don't think we'd do it again.I've worked in the Financial Services industry for the last 25 years. Thanks for the reply!
Apparently now the yellow pages have been reduced in size so they can fit through standard letter boxes. Can't really see how much it pays though and if it's on a price per book basis.0 -
