I've got a better idea ....let's just let the dozen or so richest people in the country run it .....it will save all that bother about voting, about all the money we spend on parliament etc, etc, we can do away with hospitals ....people will soon die off and that will save even more money.
And of course, poor people will be in the thrall of the richest people in the country who can decide just how much money they can have, just how much food they can have - and of course, they certainly won't need houses or homes - just a few hovels around should sort 'em all out!
After all....democracy is some sort of stupid idea of the greeks, isn't it? And look where its getting them!
Now I need to go and find a wee hovel .....0 -

As a tenant, I can kind of see the point in terms of local elections - chances are I'm not going to be around to see the results of a local election and if you've only got a short-term tenancy, then it stands to reason that you're less likely to be interesed in very local issues.
However, if I'm denied the chance to vote in local elections then it'd also be logical that I shouldn't have to pay council tax to fund local services either - after all, I don't get the long term benefits from those either. The LL should pay it, as the person who gets long term benefit from local services (and they should not be able to get away with adding it to the rent)

"No taxation without representation"; the (grossly over-simplified) cause of the American Revolution.
Nice to see, once again, that history is cyclical. Cretins.0 -
Hoping you have had enough attention now and can settle down. Please don't interrupt when the grown ups are talking!!:D0
