Part of the Furniture 100 Posts Mortgage-free Glee!
We've been MF for a year, slightly different situation as we have two children. My OH doesn't work and I have reduced my working days to 4 days a week - the day off we have with the children at school is great! I've also been building our savings pot (I wiped our savings out to pay off the mortgage). Last year we didn't have a holiday ('cos of paying off the mortgage), this year we went two weeks AI to Portugal and next year a two week cruise.

Now thinking about another goal and toying with the investment property option - particularly as a retirement vehicle for OH, as he has no pension provision (mine isn't too bad). Personally I'd like to drop to a 3 day week, but whilst I think work were happy enough with a reduction to 4 days, 3 would be a step too far.

Hope you decide what to do and good luck.
  • It would appear there are quite a few mf'ers still sniffing around here! Anyone else want to share what they've been up to since passing the milestone? Quite interesting that it seems to take quite a while for it to "sink in" especially considering this was a goal we've been working towards for years...

I'm with you GJ, people have gone without to get to MFdom, and now they're there its a bit of an anti-climax. I guess if somebody came and wiped my mortgage for me overnight it'd be a complete surprise and probably easier to deal with. Because of the slow process that is paying your mortgage off, you see the finishing line approaching for sometime and have to time to wonder what's next.

As you say, lets get other MFers on this thread to share their personal experiences which will help the likes of us still in the thick of it!!

    Cheers
