You would be amazed as to how threatening and intimidating debt collection thugs can be, if carried on over a prolonged period I can imagine it would seriously hurt your mental health. I was onced harassed by these rock apes just cause I had the same name as a debt defaulter (and a few other things he'd done) and I tell you it wasnt nice, leaving my flat some days and thug would sidle up to you and start threatening you with violence if you didnt pay up. Cant imangine what it would do to someone a bit sensitive or mentaly unstable. If I was harresed by these nazis ever again I think perhaps I would pour petrol on them and burn them alive, at least it would be deserving.

  • Whatever the cause (maybe there were many) this is a very very sad story and my heart goes out to her family.

It's so sad that people get to the point where they believe no-one can help.

There are solutions to problems. To take your own life because you believe there is no way out? It's tragic.

It sounds as though debt was a contributory factor in this case. Whether it was the only factor - hard to tell. However, I'm sure that most of us have had some experience of the hell of dealing with debt collection agencies. I've got personal experience of something very similar within my own immediate family. I know for a fact in that case the debt collection agencies were the final straw and contributed to the suicide.

It really angers me the way that debt collection agencies harass people. They take the stance that everyone is trying to avoid their responsibilities. They seem to particularly focus in on those who are weakest and can't stand up for themselves. To be fair though, people who try to deliberately avoid their debts avoid me too!

Personally I feel that there should be more done to regulate the debt collection sector. I'm sure that there can be a way of ensuring that there is a system where creditors can persue debts, but not at the expense of the mental health and wellbeing of consumers. How many people have to be driven to the brink and beyond before this can happen?

Let us be honest, the credit timebomb must be about ready to explode. I well and truely get the impression that with rising mortgage rates many people who are just managing to hold their finances together will start to struggle big time. Rising house prices, first time buyers taking on more and more ridiculous mortgages. It just can't go on. Are there any political parties who care enough about those who are suffering abuse because of their indebtedness to put in place legislation to protect them - not that I can see!

    Rant over - night all!
