I'm currently in the middle of re-mortgaging, also from Halifax to Nationwide.

Halifax's original redemption admin fee quoted when I took out my Halifax mortgage in late 2004 was only £115, so definitely a big rise.

Will be most interested in how you get on, as I'll be challenging them about the increase after I complete in March.
  • When I signed up for my Natest Mortgage in 2004 the sealing fee (the fee they charge when you move away from them) was £100.00

When I came to remortgage and move my mortgage to First Active in 2006 the sealing fee had gone up to £225. I queried this, saying that they had me over a barrel and they could in theory have charged me £1000 to come out - I didn't have a leg to stand on. Obviously I had to pay it, but it annoyed me that they could change the terms during the term of my mortgage.

It seems quite right, therefore, that I should be able to claim the £125 back - but has anyone got a suggested letter that I should write or should I simply pen one myself?

    Thanks
  • funkmaster, there is a draft letter on thisismoney.co.uk for claiming redemption fees back, its a bit basic, but it may help. I'm using an extended version of this for mine against Abbey.

    Hi,

Please could any Northern Rock mortgage customers who view this forum look to see what the NR mortgage exit fee was in 2003.

I redeemed my mortgage and paid a £250 fee in 2006, but i'm sure it was a lot less when I took out the mortgage in 2003. I have kept my old mortgage statements, but there is no reference to fees.

    Thanks in advance
