in Cutting tax
Hey. When I started my job last year in February I was still at school and I filled out the form so I wouldn't get taxed but unfortunately I did get taxed for the whole tme. I am still in this job now and rightly getting taxed. I want to know if I can claim back my tax from February to May easily, and how do I do this?
Hope you MSEs out there can give me a hand
. David
btw, I live in Scotland

How much did you earn ?, theirs no difference in tax just because your at school.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

That's OK ..... HMRC won't hold it against you. They even have offices .. and employ people up there!;)
If you only started work in Feb - and had no income prior. It's likely you are entitled to all tax you paid to be refunded ... as you probably won't have used the allowance for the whole of the tax year to 5th Apr 2006. But it gets more complex if you haven't yet got a Tax Code sorted out?
Contact the HMRC office you deal with. If you've got a tax code for this year (P2) - it will be on there. Or ask your employer for the number and the reference they have for HMRC - then ring them. It's likely Centre 1, in East Kilbride .... if your employer is in Scotland.
You normally need to complete an R40 to apply for a refund - but they may take it just from the call, if they've issued a code for this year .. and realise they haven't dealt with last year yet?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Any idea where this code is written? If I had words to make a day for you,

Code might be on your payslip.
If you phone the tax office, as long as you know your National Insurance number, they will be able to sort things out.
Whilst you may have paid too much tax up to 5 April, chances are, you are paying the correct amount now.

If you've had one sorted out ... it should both be on a P2 (from HMRC) and on each payslip from your employerIf you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
