Have you tried OpenOffice? it's a free (legal) Microsoft-Office type program, there's a page on it here:

it's not identical, and sometimes a bit clunky, but for free it's great.
(Just make sure you save files as RichText or .rtf files if you need them on an Office computer as not all of them seem to recognise these files!)
