Debt - letters of authority

Hi, I am new to this site as am looking to get out of debt.

I have a couple of letters from firms saying that they are now dealing with the debt from the original firm.

Am I within my rights to ask for a letter of authority to be produced by them from the original firm confirming that they have passed the debt on to them?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated :T

Yes - there is a standard prove it letter for this situation - which asks them to prove you now owe the money to them (typically they'll send a notice of assignment if they have bought the debt, or something from the creditor if they are just chasing on the original creditors behalf, or copies of the creditors agreement and paperwork etc)
