We bought our boys one each in June 2010 from Argos. After 6 months we had to replace 1 of them and after 9 months, the second had to be replaced. We have just had to replace the one originally replaced after 6 months. Not impressed with the quality at all.

You can a pocket sprung mattress topped with memory foam for a very similar price. http://www.bedzrus.co.uk/catalog/mattress/memory_foam/double/Deep_Sleep_Silk_1000_Double_Mattress_6139_565.html

I'm not recommending Bedzrus as such, just wanted to show better product for less money. Likewise nothing against bedrus either!, Gee I need to sleep and be more corherate.

Don't ever be taken in by how much money your suppose to "be saving". It's about how much "your spending"
Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz

We have just ditched our old Silentnight Miracoil mattress, which was 8 years old. For the last 4 years we had found it very lumpy but couldn't afford to replace it. Springs forcing their way out finally persuaded us! (ouch)
Local bedshop (chibeds :j :j :j) sold us the replacement, a pocket spring mattress, which they tell us should last the 10 years we were promised with the Silentnight.....and they delivered it free and took the old one away for a tenner.

It seems that coiled spring beds are made in such a way that they don't last as long as pocket spring ones - though I expect it would depend on the quality of the make.

Love the way they come up with the miracoil name to disguise what is a coiled spring mattress. Go for pocket sprung everytime.
  • I think Silentnight beds are designed to last almost 1 yr comfortably then they rapidly disintegrate.
We've been caught out by buying Silentnight beds twice now - NEVER again!
There are some good looking beds/mattresses on ebay from independant manufacturers agents for the same or lesser price as the 'low priced' down market Silentnight ones. Pocket sprung & memory foam. Feedback looks really good BUT it's difficult as people enthuse about NEW beds not what the beds are like 1 yr later.
I don't think you'd get much worse than Silentnight
