how does jsa work when working bank ?

Hi All,

I am getting a little worried about which way to turn about work or JSA or both.
I have been offered "bank" work which is more or less agency work , the company said at the moment there is loads of work but they don't know how long it will last. They did say they will always be some bank work but unsure of hours , when etc.....

what i need to know is how does JSA work if i work and earn more than JSA do i just declare what ive worked and they adjust my payments acording ?? if i work over sixteen hours for a few weeks then no work at all do i have to sign off and back on .If i'm offered work on my signing on day what do i ? i just need some guidance please on how this all works .

Thankyou

  • Have you asked JCP?

There is the rapid restart for people who do a short amount of work then go back on JSA, means you dont have to go through the whole process again.

well jobcentre wasn't very helpful . she just told me if i work 16 hours or less i can still sign on but have to declair all hours worked and if i did anymore i'd have to sign off. she didn't have a clue about childcare or how much i'd be better off or not .
she didnt know if i tell jobcentre when i sign on what hours i worked or if i have to send it in writing.

all she did say is signing off and on (if no hours available) would mess my benefits up but i had to decide if job was worth it mmmmmm what should i do.

How it worked when I was on agency in the quiet periods however this is some time ago:

Claim JSA. In any one signing week, which is not the same as a working week, if you do less than 16hrs you sign a declaration stating how many hours you worked and what you got paid. All but £5 is deducted from that weeks JSA. If you work 16hrs or more, you sign off, do the work and then do a rapid reclaim.

It doesn't mess your JSA up but it means more work for them.

only you can decide whether its worth it, id do it if it meant working and getting a wage but im not sure how childcare works if your working on and off
