Hi
Don'y know if this is the right board, but probably the best to try first.
Please can anyone recommend a kettle for an Aga. I want to buy one for a friend but dont want to spend an absolute fortune.
What should I be looking for ?
Will a normal stove top kettle do or does it have to have something special about it ?
Any thoughts will be gladly received.
Thanks in advance

Ideally you want a kettle with a large base that will cover as much of the hotplate as possible like these

Smaller ones work OK but heat is escaping all around them so they are not as efficient. It is vital that the base is perfectly flat (and stays that way).0 -
I have used a stove top kettle for years, I found that those with a seam in them would only last about a year until it leaked. I have has a le cruset Kone kettle for about 3 years now and is still going strong. It is suitable for an Aga, and is not as heavy as the traditional Le Cruset kettle.

I found this rather nice selection - the prices make my blood run cold, but I would definitely have either a traditional Aga kettle (like the one I was brought up with
) or the beautiful Il Conico if I had an Aga.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
My sister bought me mine for christms from TKMAXX and its a stove top one. Aga maintenance man recommended a copper bottomed one as they are the best for transfer of heat. Whatever you get i would recommend getting one with a whistle on it. Mine stays on the side of the stove all day and i move it onto the hotplates as required, without the whistle i would boil it dry.0
