Hsbc mortgages

  • We bought our house with a HSBC mortgage back in June this year. Our contact at HSBC was helpful and got everything processed pretty quickly. We had a bit of a painful 10 day wait whilst it went to the underwriter, but other than that everything went smoothly. We've had no problems since, they've sent out all documents as they promised and taken payments when they were supposed to. I'd recommend them.

    Hi,

We are going through a remortgage with them and I have found them very helpful.

I saw a market leading rate of 1.99% above base rate a few weeks ago for the term of the mortgage, however My current fix does not end until Feb 2012. They explained that if approved etc, I have 6 months to obtain the funds from HSBC. I would benefit from a rate drop if the same mortgage product was available or be protected from a rate increase if the same mortgage increased.

They carried out a house valuation over the phone, which passed no problem, they were happy that we only wanted 86k rather than the max 167k which was on offer.

they sent paperwork out in a timely fashion and everything is signed waiting for a definite completion date / exact mortgage amount.
So far they have been very good, just hope the final stage in Feb will be as easy!!

  • We went through the same turmoil. Our IFA told us that HSBC were tough and it would be better not to waste time applying then being rejected (as well as the credit search looking bad)

However the HSBC deal was at least 0.75% cheaper. We applied, the staff were very helpful, got approved in 5 days and had no issues with them at all.

Just be careful of their insurance products. Critical Illness cover etc is very poor compared to other policies to resist the temptation to get everything from them. The Mortgages at present are very competitive though

I and my partner are currently in the middle of the process with HSBC. We did an online application, purely for convenience. Obviously, I would only recommend an online application if the person was computer literate. Took me around 20-30mins to complete. I had a phone call within 4 hours of submittance to go through the application. A mortgage pack was sent out to us, application form, declaration, wage slips, bank statements and inside leg measurement have all been returned. Today, we popped into a branch to present our Passport as ID. OK, so this could have all been done in one appointment but we like most had work commitments and couldn't afford to wait 2/3/4 weeks for a Saturday appointment.

This all started on 5th November and now we are awaiting a formal mortgage offer. I'm going to give them a week before chasing. The phone number I was giving for the 'next' department is 08456 03 01 71 8am - 6pm Mon - Fri; remembering to quote your reference number. I hope this helps.
All going smooooooothly at present yet I do not wish to tempt fate!

We, like you, have had certain brokers telling us to stay away. Yet others have told to us to grab the deal as soon as possible!

    Fingers crossed, good luck :)

And just to follow on from the above, we received a formal mortgage offer on Saturday (19th). After signing another bit of paperwork and sending it back to them, I assume all we have to do now is wait for the dollar :D.

HSBC have been nothing but fantastic, we have followed the process they have in place and they have upheld their side of the bargin

I would have to say that so far, I have been very impressed with HSBC.

Went in to our local branch last week (having done research on line), equipped with payslips, passports, proof of deposit, and asked to see a Mortgage person.

No one available right now, but could I come back in 1 hour? No problem, came back 1 hour later DIP (Decision in Principle) received and appointment made for today to bring some additional info (utility bills, and 3 months bank statements). Went in at 10am, all done by 11:30, checking info, checking insurance requirements (their insurance prices  ). 4 pm, call back from branch, all approved :j

Tomorrow, dropping off cheque to book deal and get survey arranged.

We have been advised of deal changes possible on Friday, so have decided to confirm our deal now (unless someone can give me the insiders guide to what HSBC's new rates are going to be)

    Well done HSBC :T
