Default and O2

Hi All
I have checked my credit rating today on Experian, and its showing as poor, only 2 points off fair. I was pleasantly surprised by this as was expecting it to be down as the very poor one.
I looked through all the information it gave me and saw that O2 had registered a default against me. I had a phone with them years ago and cancelled the contract when I moved onto Orange. About 18 months later they sent me a default notice saying if I didnt pay an outstanding balance they would register a default against me. I didnt owe them any money, called them and explained this, pointed out the phone had not been used for 18 months and everything had been paid before. They apologised and advised they would close the account off properly.
This was all about 2 years ago I think? I still have the letter they sent me threatening the default and *might* have the confirmation they sent me after to show the account was closed. I am MAD they still registered the default, as without this it could make a difference to my score.
How do you think I should go about getting this sorted? Can a default be removed?
