Debt company chasing for settled debt

Hi
Back in 2000 i ran into money trouble and owed various companies 100 - 700 pounds, one of which was La Redoute who susequently passed the debt to various firms including Moorcroft + a solicitors office, then in 2003 i decided to do something about it and found i had a CCJ. I contacted the court and then made the payment to show my account as settled to the solicitors, moorcroft then wrote me a letter which confirmed the account as settled. I sent this to the court so that i could get a certificate to show its paid, and sent this to the credit reference agencies. I make it that the CCJ should actually have just dropped off my credit file in fact.
Now Wescot Credit SErvices Ltd have today sent me a letter demanding an outstanding debt of 236.03 payable by 31/1 or legal fees of 80 will be added. I got all my paperwork out and rang them and they demanded I pay - i explaied that i have and she said its down to me to prove i dont owe it or they will continue and take me to court !
I lost my rag and told her to send me an SAE together with 10p photocopying charge if the silly cow wants a copy of the letter saying i dont owe it - my temper got the better of me im afraid. She refused at which point i just said 'look do it or i will quite happily waste your time going to court and having them laugh at you' and she said 'okay ill send you one out'. I know its petty but i dont see why i should justify myself any further.
Anyways do u think i should just get on and do it to save hassle ? I actually (despite my temper) dont want to end up back in court proving myself. What are my legal rights ?
Thank you
Lennie

Hi Lennie
I'm not surprised you lost your temper. And funny how she agreed once you did. I always wonder why there is this need for conversations to become unpleasant on the part of debt collector employees. I'm sure they deal with some awkward so-and-so's but people like yourself are not, so why the aggro? Anyway, I would send the copy, that's what the document is for after all, like a passport is for travel, if only so they can sort out their administrative errors.Context is all.
