What to buy for my parents ????

Same old, age old question but this year I am really stumped as to what to get my Mum and Dad for Christmas :undecided
They are both mid-70's, reasonably fit and healthy and reasonably well off so can pretty much buy what they need or want. In the past I have done theatre tickets, National Trust membership (think they used it once in the year ), magazine subscriptions, hampers - all the usual stuff - and this year I am completely devoid of inspiration. I would normally spend around £40 each on them.
So what are your parents getting this year from you ??? Any ideas very gratefully received :T

I agree that consumables are a much better bet than other things for older people - I have a very elderly aunt and uncle who love giving things away for others to enjoy before the inevitable. Whilst it's a nice thought I realised there was no point in spending bucketloads on something for the home they'd never appreciate.
You've made some good choices in the past, why not put the money towards an experience, such as a ride in a hot air balloon in the spring / summer? My other suggestion would be to buy them Apple TV device (c£100) - loads of fun if they have a big screen TV.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Lol!!! Mid 70's is the new mid 50's, I think they surly have a good 10 years before anyone starts thinking about consumables only!! :rotfl:back to comping after a 2 year break!! Mission… to win a gift for all my family for Christmas!0 -
They are definitely not at the 'consumables only' stage yet My Dad is currently considering whether to purchase an Iphone !
They'll play games with us at Christmas but wouldn't sit down of an evening and just play games with each other (that really isn' meant to sound didgy but can't find a way of saying it that doesn't ).
Karren - the link you've posted doesn't work so don't know what you are recommending.0 -
Got mine a cheap secondhand computer so they can keep in touch with relatives abroad, book holidays, watch old tv progs etc.). Chose an old mac (running osx) so no viruses freezes crashes etc. About £100 so affordable on a budget.
Pointed them at the mac "computing with bifocals " site. Plus you don't really need a handbook with modern systems. They feel they're taking part in the new technology but I'm steering them clear of the modern "upgraded to stand still" conveyor belt.

If they can afford whaever they would like, and you can't think of a good gift, what about an Oxfam gift - try to make it relevant, so if one was a teacher buy an education related gift etc.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0"Do what others won't early in life so you can do what others can't later in life"0

Zagubov - my Dad has a desktop PC and a laptop
Gallygirl - they already give very generously to charities close to their heart and I would rather get them something for them than donate in their names0 -
photo book? cheap weekend break somewhere?(beauty is it can be at any time of next year, so could pick a weekend that suits your budget. then you could make up a 'travel brochure' of the city you've chosen, with details of nice restaurants, things to do, places of interest, taxi numbers etc, all info pulled from internet?)Credit card €7892.36/€ 0
Catalogues €767.52/€ 0

My OH has bought me a new Kodak printer for xmas its a most welcome gift as I really begrudged the cost of the ink cartridges for my old one , this one comes with affordable ink cartridges at least half the price of the old ones.. or how about tickets for a show and dinner..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
