Jacket potatoes in the Bread Machine

Hope this is the right place to post. I have looked through previous threads but couldn't find this already

Today I did jacket potatoes in my bread machine! I had a brainwave yesterday while leftover bread ends were transforming themselves into bread pudding in the bread machine, that maybe I could use it as a mini oven. So today I pierced the skin on two potatoes and put them in on 'bake only' for and hour and a half. They were delicious!!!:T I hate microwaves jacket potatoes, but it also seems a waste to put the oven on for a couple of potatoes. I use the oven so rarely that we'd hardly ever have jackets, and I had some leftover bolognaise from the week that seemed perfect for a weekend lunch.

Are there any other frugal uses anyone has found for their bread machine?

  • interesting, I heard in here that you can cook jacket potatoes in the slow cooker too, I keep meaning to give it a go but never get around to it!

Did the skins go cripsy in the BM? I wouldn't imagine they would in the SC and it's the crispy skins that are my favorite bit.

Yes, the skins did go crispy although I would think if you left them in there they would go soggy from the steam
  • We have an airfryer and it's BRILLIANT for any kind of potatoes....chips, rostis, baked and roast and NO fat!!! My kids now hate their potatoes done any other way. I'm going to try doing a baked potato in the SC and then transfer it to the air fryer to crisp it up...will come back with my results. We also hardly ever use the oven now....I even do my garlic bread in the air fryer.

I always do my baking potatoes for 10 minutes in the microwave (to cut down on oven time) and then 30-50 minutes in an oven to get the crispy skins.
