Royal Navy Pensions?

My OH has just been told by a colleague at his (civilian) job that all service age 18+ is pensionable.
Does anyone know where we could find out more?
He's in his 50s now, but was with the RN from 16 - 19 1/2; but has no paperwork at all left from those days, can't recall his service number and has no recollection of anything at all being mentioned back then.
Even if it only totals a hundred or so, every little helps towards those debts!
Many Thanks

You should be able to get the advice you need from one of the links on'
The Royal Navy Associations web site.
Hope this helps.0 -

You ought to check, but it's highly likely that he would have no pension rights for such a short period of pensionable service (approx 18 months).Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

I think that he may be due something but as highlighted by debt-free chick it will be calculated from age 18 only - the rest was for the Queen.
Are you quite sure he was in the Navy if he cannot remember his service number?!?:D
try shouting at him when he is fast asleep - "Whats your number - you orrible little man" Bet he'll just blurt it out!!
Another option is to contact SSAFA Soldiers sailors and airmens families association,
http://www.ssafa.org.uk/
I'd say this is well worth investing a little effort in. All the best.0 -
Thanks a lot! I'll get him to check out those links.
LOL at chipfire! He's never blurted it out when I've shouted at him when he's asleep before - doubt if he'll start now!
Will keep you updated..................:mad: :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -

Armed forces service was not always on pensionable terms - you got a gratuity in lieu.
However all he needs to check is his NI number.0 -
Moonrakerz...The phone number has changed,it is now 0141 224 3600.(For information....before 1975 when the rules were changed, you had to have served 22 years to earn a pension, according to the young lady I've just spoken to).0

For anyone reading these posts re. the R.N. pension,I've just read an article in the Royal British Legion Extra magazine about a group,The Armed Forces Pension Group(AFPG),campaigning to persuade the M.O.D/Govt. to award a pension to forces personnel who retired from the forces prior to the 1975 rule change. For more info. visit their website or call 01623 402 290.0
