I'm not on the food department all the time like I used to be, more often than not I'm behind the scenes as it were, so apologies for the prices that may be out by a few pence. If anyone knows the exact prices for items then please correct mine.
I've been asked to do this by a few people so here goes:
Oakham Whole Chickens down to £2.76/kg.
3 large brown onions for 75p in a net, also part of the 5 for 4 deal on all bagged salad and veg.
The 5 for 4 bagged salad and veg includes tuna nicoise, 3 pack bag of sweet peppers (different colours no green), mushrooms, tomatoes on the vine, grape packs, banana packs etc. Basically anything that doesn't need to be weighed.
20cl Bucks Fizz for 49p
80 Fairtrade Gold Teabags for 99p
Avocado, mint and lime dressing for 51p (330ml)
Sunblush tomato and roasted onion dressing for 51p (330ml)
Mini bites are 3 for £5 on all varieties, includes chocolate cornflake, choc and orange, choc and irish liqueur, oat/yoghurt and cranberry and a few other flavours.
Prawn crackers are half price, think they are now 45p.
Large bags of handcooked crisps are 3 for 2.
Canned soups are 3 for 2. Varieties include pea and ham, tomato and basil, carrot and coriander etc.
Fresh soups in chiller are BOGOHP. Varieties include tomato and red lentil, roasted honey parsnips etc.
Healthy balanced ready meals are BOGOHP. These range from about 2.99-4.99. These include paella, beef stroganoff, ham hock and mash, chicken pad thai, sticky pork and noodles, thai beef, sausage and mash etc.
'Eat Well' bread (products with a sunflower logo) are on 3 for 2. Choose from golden wholemeal, malted grain, two in one loaves and rolls etc.
Eat Well cereals are 3 for 2. Varieties such as cornflakes, porridge, honey nut and flakes, unsweetened museli, fruit and nuts etc.
Apple juice and orange juice are 3 for 2. 1 litre is 99p, the organic versions are slightly more.
Mineral water is 3 for 2, still and sparkling. 60p for a 1.5 litre bottle.
I don't know when these offers end I'm afraid. If its still on the packaging then it has to be sold at the lower price.

The Global square Pizzas are reduced from £3.99 to £2.99
Don't forget - If you spend £35 or more you get a free 'Cook' branded item.0 -
The 'Cook' offer finished yesterday.0

I was in today and pre-packed grapes are half price, down to £2.990

In my local 'supermarket surplus' shop (locally known as Marrens) we invariably pick up a load of M&S stuff at massively reduced prices. The best one this weekend was a pack of 2 Danish Unsmoked Loin Steaks With Cheese & Pineapple for the princely sum of 49p! Best before date is 1/2/07 but real reason for the reduction is they were missing their cardboard sleeve/packaging. As we never cook the packaging, we were very happy to take them off their hands
. Lord only knows how much these would be in M&S.

Wish I had something like that near me, that sounds great!0

ti1980 don't you get the staff shop stuff? (10p per item, at least that's the rumour I heard?) I thought that's where all M&S stuff went - didn't know it went to other shops.... Anyway as you are on the inside
do you know if M&S have stopped stocking their tinned tuna in a black box (Ventresca?), last few times I have been to Princes Street branch they haven't had any (best tinned tuna I ever tasted!).
The staff there didn't know but the Edinburgh branch is such a mess at the moment (refurb) that you can't really blame them.......

Competitionscafe, I get some things from the staff shop occasionally but I work odd hours so there isn't usually much to be had a lot of the time when I get the chance to pop in. When I work weekends though I usually manage to get a few bits.:)
I've not heard of M&S food going to others shops before.
Not sure where you heard 10p per item, I think it depends on the item but also different stores do things differently. I think it mainly depends on what they have a lot of, sometimes they may have 'managers specials' if they have a lot of a particular item to sell.
To be fair though, even at full price, when there are some decent offers on and I use staff discount as well, prices are often very comparable with own brand from other shops especially for the boring basics such as bread and milk.
I have no idea about the tuna but I could probably find out for you. You wouldn't happen to have the barcode number and the price on a receipt by any chance? It might just be that particular store that has discontinued it from their stockfile.
Anyway, I will post back and let you know what I find out asap.0 -

Marrens (supermarket surplus shop in Tankersley) have been selling M&S 'cast offs' for years. The shop has contracts with all the major supermarkets to dispose of any stuff that has been 'over bought' or is nearing its sell by date. The savings are spectacular, we often pick up stuff at 10% of its original RRP. Last week they were selling off huge M&S chocolate birthday cakes for 99p (originally £9.99 in M&S). Marrens also sell a lot of Asda pre-packed curries, again without their cardboard sleeves. On Saturday we picked up 800g tubs of Chicken Tikka Masaala (Best Before Date 2/2/07) without the packaging for 49p! I know it's a bit sad, but shopping there is our highlight of the week!!0 -
There is a shop like that in Darlington too (not call that though) you can find some very strange combinations of things but also great bargains!0

Competitionscafe, the tuna you mentioned is Yellowfin Tuna Ventresca Fillets. It is part of the Speciality range (hence the black packaging). It has not been discontinued so it could just be a store issue. I looked out for it today and I saw the tinned version but it also comes in a jar.
The product code for the tinned version is 00503181. It is 115g net wt and 75g drained wt.
The product code for the version in a jar is 00504331. This one is bigger at 190g net wt and 145g drained wt.
If you give the product code instore to someone on the food section who has access to reports then they can find out for you if they have stopped selling it at your store or if it is just a temporary supply issue.
Is it that good? Its pricey isn't it?0
