    No bitterness or goading here:o

    find some posts confusing.

The title sometimes about renting and always gets onto conversation about those who own mocking renters yet again and boasting how well off they all are.

other day there was same title rent decreased and rent increased!

Do wish people could just get on.

The economys a mess right now.

practical discussion based on facts be more useful than 2 sides arguing all time. as tories say we all in this together!

Some people particularly STR's (sell to renters) have put themselves in a position where they really need/want the economy to deterioate even further to justify the position that they have put themselves in. So although one would think we all want to get out of this mess, it's not actually the case.

Confused why would property owner wish their house value to fall?
Assumed everyone who want to sell wants to sell for best price.
As in slow market im assuming people only selling because they need to.

we all linked with in the economy if we own or rent.
low interest rates benefit those with morages but not savers/renters.
low morgage approvals mean those who want to upgrade cant because they cant sell.
Those who buy to let sometimes take away some properties which first time buyers may have chosen to buy.
renters giving people good return on their investment especially with rising rents.

What if the government gave renters 10% tax relief on their rents? I'm sure it would be self funding (if you see where I'm going on this).

As renters would be able to afford higher rents the market would oblige by providing them.

Er wrong. Amateur property investors are happy to see the economy go to hell in a handcart providing they hang on to their windfall profits.

Whilst property churning and low quality financial services might benefit from house price inflation, wealth creation benefits from low house prices. Inflated house prices are making it increasingly difficult to justify the cost of training scientists and engineers in the UK. Not only is the quality of UK housing stock abysmal (which puts employees off) but employers have to pay what amounts to a huge levy on employment to cover the cost of renting.

I think his point is that it would flush out the tax dodgers who don't declare their rental income.

I think you had better read my post again because you seem to be rushing in and assuming that I am saying something which I am not!

Where did I say that others were not 'booing' the economy? I merely said 'particularly STR's'. In fact my use of the word 'partcularly' does in fact infer that others are too, don't you think?

Sorry but the post has to stand. Under rule 2,783e of the 70% club, I am required to slash wildly with a blunt sword.

I did put your comments to the 70% club steering commitee however and I have been instructed to ask you why buying a string of properties for investment qualifies as good but STR's qualify as evil? In their words (not mine), "Why can't bull ******s not appreciate that both put and call options are a necessary part of a healthy market"

There is no 'good' or 'bad' you are too personally involved and it's clouding your judgement. I think that you must have missed my post some hours ago on the 'STR thread' where I said STR's aren't filth they simply played the game the way they saw it would pan out.

EDIT: Although on checking that thread now seems to have been deleted.

This is very true ..... just pop over to HPC and you will see sad people rejoiceing in the misery of Factory close-downs, repossesions, economic woes, etc.

They really are a dispicable bunch.

They tried this in Ireland in the 90s.

It has since been withdrawn, as it garnered little additional tax revenue and resulted in rents rising as it improved affordability for tenants.

The net result was that the taxpayer just ended up subsidising higher rents, to the benefit of tax-compliant landlords.

Yet another hair brained idea from the (now very quiet, and increasingly desperate) 70% club
