A small victory in my debt free journey

Today I had a small victory in my debt free journey. Last week I made an offer to Direct Legal Collections and they have accepted. The debt is £2858.22 and they have accepted £850.03

I am shocked but also very pleased at the same time lets hope the others I have offered to are as easy to settle

  • Be careful with DLC. We settled a debt at 60%, and thought that would be the end of it. I thought the letter was watertight (did not read this forum prior to settling:eek:) but it wasn't as it did not say anything about closing the account.

The account is still open with the outstanding amount showing on our credit record. I only found out last week, and must chase it up this week. They have not chased us yet for outstanding balance but no doubt will.

    Check any settlement letter carefully.

I've checked the letter and it says it will be settled and has the correct wording so looks good

  • I have dealt with DLC and they are very dodgy and there have a separate company with different name that they may use to come after you for the reminder of the debt.

Does the letter say that the debt will be recorded as full and final settlement of the debt and that they will recorded it on your credit file as settled not partial settlement.

What year was the debt taken out and when was it defaulted on ?
