Dehumidifiers .... how to use them ??

Back in the summer i was freecycled a lovely dehumidifier. (hubby said i was mad and what did i want one of those for we didnt have any damp!).

I live in a house covered in wallpaper by the previous owner, even in the bathrooms. I can't dry washing on the rads becasue the paper gets scratched and marked and obviously damp. i am desperately trying to not use my tumble dryer, but i do 2 loads a day as there are 4 children, the youngest a small baby.

i have one airer and a decent set of banisters. but heavy clothes and towels take two days to dry !

so how do i use this dehumidifier effectively to stop damp and to dry clothes?

where in the house is the best place to put it ? on the landing nr the banisters or in the utility room (wallpaper in there too!)

i would love some advice please ....:)

We have a victorian type 4 rail drying rack over our landing, and use the dehumidifier on the landing every day during the colder months. We have it on a timeswitch so there's no noise during the night.
