Hello! I've just become engaged ( ) and all we know about the wedding we want is we don't want to wait for ages and we want to be really conscious of our budget (hence me deciding this would be a good forum to join in). My new fiance is better with our finances than me so he's trying to work out what the budget might be if we get married next summer, but my question is... is anyone here planning a medium to large-ish wedding in around 6 months? If we wanted a small wedding I would say it's no problem, but the guestlist has gone over one sheet of A4 already so it's not going to be small.

There is no real difference to the planning whether it is small or large, weddings tend to contain the same elements. If you are organised and can afford it there is no reason at all you can't organise it in 6 months.
My sister in law is Canadian but lives with my brother here. When they decided to get married she went to Canada and organised it in a week. Her mum then put things into action and they married 5 months later.
 Anything is possible.

It's definitely possible, especially if you rope in family and friends to help!
My SIL2B organised her wedding (150 or so guests) in six months, so go for it! Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012 Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012

Congratulations! You will need to move sharpish for next summer as venues get booked up quickly, as do photographers, florists etc but it is absolutely possible. Good luck x0

The reason why weddings are generally 1-2 years is because people liked a particular venue and for a Saturday you needed to have a waiting list. It also gives couples and their parents a lot of time to save for it. When you're both working full time there can be a lot to go and see and do.
We planned our wedding in 3 months, but I was out of work and engaged for 2 years so I knew a lot about weddings by then.
PS - you will find summer '11 much cheaper than summer 12 - as it will be a "last minute" wedding, once 2012 ticks over you'll see offers for venues to fill up their last dates.0

we had to wait to see vicar for 2 months busy church got booked in october for following april. Everything just fell into place with a few weeks.
If you are looking to order a dress through a shop you might want to get a wriggle on as they take months and months to arrive. I got mine on ebay saved hundreds and it was new and never worn. Fitted me pretty well. Adjustments cost more than the dress did lol. Lots of shops now do bridal gowns like monsoon and bhs that are off the peg.0

            Congratulation!
OH proposed to me exactly a week ago tomorrow and we married in June 2011 so it can be done. however, I work from home and parents generously paid for it so things were a bit easier.
TBH I don't see the point in long engagements, have the wedding you can afford.
On a practical note, you'll need to get yours and BM dresses before the end of Jan really.
And tomorrow, go and buy one or two of the Bride magazines as a treat - its such fun!0

Its not bonkers, but does depend on the wedding you want for exactly the reasons above. Personally we wanted to get married pretty quickly as I could not bear the thought of it being ages away and having to keep going on about it, and like zcrat41, I don't see the point of long engagements unless you are saving - if you want to get married, just do it! Congrats btw, enjoy the craziness, lol0

I was trying to remember the name of that one to give to the OP as I also found it quite MSE compared to the others so thank you!0

My sister and two cousins both went from engaged to married within 5 months and had lovely weddings. We had a long engagement (about 16 months) but did the majority of the planning in the last 6 months. I would scope out venues/churches to work out availability and make your decision based on that. Good luck & congrats!fran-o0
