£248 debt in March Nationwide now saying its £2315!

I had debt on my account with Nationwide, and a letter from KPR debt company stating my debt is £248, this has now been transferred to Roxburghe who claim the debt is £2315. I queried how it could have risen in such a short time as Roxburghe claim they dont apply charges, Roxburghe went back to nationwide to find out why ? Roxburghe have called me just now saying Nationwide are adamant it is £2315 and I need to go into a branch to get a rundown of how it is this amount. I asked Roxburghe when they got the debt the chap told me August so from March to August the debt has risen from £248 to £2315.....Can anyone please help as to how I stand and what I can do about this.....

If roxburghe want you to pay them, then its them that need to provide you with a full breakdown of the account or a full list of transactions to justify the balance they say is owed.

If you've only spoken to roxburghe so far then I would start with a prove it letter asking them to prove you owe the debt. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11570893&postcount=2

And if they don't provide some evidence of the balance (but do send some proof of the debt) I would then write again requesting a full list of transactions to justify the balance .

One other though - does the KPR letter definitiely state that the amount owed is £248 rather than something like the amount of arrears? what sort of account was it? a bank account? or a credit card or loan?

What sort of balance did you thnk you owed? did you expect it to be only £248 or so, or do you have statements from nationwide showing a higher debt?
