hi i owned my own home between 1998 - 2001 and i have just found out that students or people on at the time was a yt scheme shouldnt pay council tax now both me and my hubby were both on apprentiships and shouldnt have paid but like councils are never informed us and im sure is was prited on any leaflets or letter that i got or i would have claimed it no then my question is
is there a loophole or anyway at all i can reclaim this amount as it would be quite alot of money

If I were you I'd write to the Council Tax office you paid the money to, with proof that you were students for the period you paid and proof of payments made and simply ask for a refund - Good luck hope you get it.

If you where both on apprenticeships, you don't count as students - you would instead get what's called a 'double disregard' and therefore get a 50% discount.
