being bothered my mackenzie hall-but no debt?

My OH has been having letters from mackenzie hall regarding a debt from lloyds/black horse (I think its a couple hundred quid) which he has never had (never had any debt when we met, still doesn't bar a 0% card-neither do I)
Its been happening on and off for a while, but they have now started calling our landline on an automated call (I answered it today, so heard the start of the message-we have had a few messages on answering machine which cuts off the start-so I deleted them as soon as I heard the robotic voice as I presumed it was spam)
He has a common name, and I asked before on here when he got the first postcard and was advised to ignore it, but its happening more often so I would like them to stop-how does he go about telling them to leave him alone, they have the wrong person?
Thanks

Reply to one of the letters with a prove it letter - if its not his debt then they won't be able to prove it (or it might well turn out that they try to prove it and its a completely different date of birth and an address he never lived at.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. We'll have to wait for the next letter I presume-all previous have been binned, and I presume it's not a good idea to reply to the phone call!0

Hi hotcookie101, I'd be really interested to hear how you get on.
Mackenzie Hall have been writing to an unknown debtor at my address for about 7 years.
I've been here 14 years, the previous owner was here approx 5 years and the one before him about 3-4 (neither of which are the unknown debtor).
MacKenzie Hall write every now and again, they threaten that doorstep collectors will be visiting in the next 10 days and that they will take the "necessary action" to settle the debt.
Naively I contacted Mackenzie Hall expecting a straightfoward resolusion (I tell them the debtor doesn't live at my address, they apologise, promise to update their records etc etc.) No such luck, they are unhelpful to the extreme, rude beyond belief and on more than one ocassion have been verbally abusive.
I have wrote to them, emailed, returned mail via recorded delivery and rung them ... and it's not even my debt.
I got another threatening letter from them today. I will ring them tomorrow.
The laughable thing is the debt is so small it must have cost them 10 times the amount in administation chasing it all these years.
Good luck!0 -
Why ring them? Do you like being abused and insulted?Naively I contacted Mackenzie Hall expecting a straightfoward resolusion (I tell them the debtor doesn't live at my address, they apologise, promise to update their records etc etc.) No such luck, they are unhelpful to the extreme, rude beyond belief and on more than one ocassion have been verbally abusive.

You need to write once and tell them that you owe nothing and that they are to cease contacting you. And then pursue them for harassmentHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
DVardysShadow - You're right, having slept on it I am not going to ring them. I will write once more and then forget about them (until they write again!). I don't want to persue them for harrassment because quite honestly I just don't need the hassle - I just want them to stop bothering me. Thanks for your advice.0

The latest letter has an email address-would it be OK to email them, or is he better sending it in the post?0

I normally say send via recorded post, but an email can often have an immediate effect.
May be worth a go as long as you then back it up with one via recorded post if the email doesn't achieve quick results.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
