can you use fat that you've drained out of mince once it's gone hard? I normally chuck it in the bin once it's set.0

I read a tip (I think in the Thrifty ways book
) that you can scrunch them up and stitch them to make a pan scrubber.

Snap! I also make birdseed sandwiches to put in the nets & the birds flock to have their fill. It's such a delight to watch them squabbling over who's turn it is to move off & make way for the next hungry fella. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
This sounds like a great idea, can I ask people what they are putting the fat pies?
Thanks100% MFW :j0 -
i put in any scraps but most of the time i melt lard and add a few cups of bird seed. they will eat most things like grated cheese, bacon fat, value porridge oats etc...
dont use margarine or any soft spreads though. its not good for the birds. they need lard or fat from any cooked meats.Make £10 a day challenge March 2013 £101.24 / £240 :j

Ooh, thanks for this as I wasn't aware that soft spreads were not suitable. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

Hello,
im a keen recycler, and recycle or re-use anything i can.
have been buying a lot of oranges this past while. they come in a net packaging, as do my plums, necterines, kiwis.
i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for how to use this netting?
i thought about making bird food balls for my christmas hampers.
but any other ideas would be lovely
hope ive posted this in the right place.
many thanks xxxx:heartsmil Getting Married 11th June 2011 to the lovely Graham:heartsmilWedding/honeymoon fund so far £69000 -
if you scrunch the net up into a ball it makes a good scrubber for pans or muddy potatoes - bit fiddly to use, but you don't feel guilty if you throw it away after a couple of uses.
but I think you're idea for homemade bird feeders is brilliant!weaving through the chaos...0 -
Ive also used some to net strwaberries from the birds
