Can I use the Tesco price promise to beat Asda prices with my £6 voucher ?

I have a £6 off my shopping voucher for MrTs as long as I spend at least £40.
Will I be able to use the Tesco price promise to beat Asda prices with my £6 voucher ? I am looking to get some wine and, if I can use the price promise, I will get some wine that is cheaper in Asda, get £6 off my shopping and hopefully get a refund. If I can use the price promise, I assume that it will compare the full price of the wine rather than the discounted value ?
Can anyone help and advise ?
