Moving to Sale, Manchester, any advice?

Can anyone advise us if there are any areas of Sale which should be avoided?
Where is the nicest part of Sale? Up near Sale water park or would we be better looking at Brooklands?
We'll be going for a drive round next weekend, we wanted to book a few house viewings but without knowing the area well it's hard to tell from Rightmove whether the street is nice or not!

Google Street View Map is your friend.
Get yourself a cup of coffee, switch your PC on and then move from street to street using Street View.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
I'm fairly familiar with Sale - I go there two or three times a week for sporting purposes.
Unfortunately, whilst it almost appears nice, it has a disproportionately high number of baseball-cap-wearing ne'er-do-wells who think that being so drunk they can't walk at 10am on a Sunday is completely appropriate, along with dumping washing machines and dead dogs in the canal (yes, I've seen both) and randomly heckling people as they go about their business. It's also about an hour away on the bus from Manchester city centre, which is a bit of a pain.
On the other hand, I hear it's nicer than places like Northern Moor.0 -
Avoid the Racecourse estate (roads named after racecourses).
Have a drive down The Avenue if you're rich and want to see some really posh properties!
They're not really very far apart at all...0 -
As above - avoid the racecourse and you should be ok (I went to a primary school on the racecourse, I remember finding used needles on the playing fields :S)0

Hi
It really does depend on your budget. Brooklands/Framingham Road area is nice. The Walton Raod estate is also a nice one. Do you need local schools as if so you may find that that is actually harder than finding a house. We live in Timperley which is between Sale and Altrincham and also a nice place to live.
