I Have quite a lot of gold I want to sell as in necklaces and bracelets , that my sons had but dont wear now. They want me to sell them and put the money towards christmas stuff for them. Any idea where ? As i have heard you can get quite a good price for gold. Dont know if the people in the shopping centre's are worth going to or not or where else is there
Any where in Belfast or the surrounding area is fine
Can anyone advise me ?

Beware. Avoid anyone you see advertising on the TV or magazines. Most high street jewellers will try to rip you off too. Try a proper bullion dealer like Chards in Blackpool. They have a website.
You can work out the exact value by finding the online gold price and then setting this against its weight and the percentage of gold in the item. The purchase value will of course be lower, but this will give you a good idea."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
Thank you . I will have a look on their site. I have seen loads of people but never thought too much about them until now.0

I have used Hatton Garden Metals on a few occasions, and they seem to offer the best price. You can get the money paid directly into your bank account, but I have always requested a cheque as I didn't fancy giving them my bank details. The cheque has always arrived very quickly. Their website is www.hattongardenmetals.com.
There are a few threads about selling gold on here somewhere, and they get a very good name.0 -
Thank you. I would like to take it somewhere here if possible, rather than post it off somewhere. I remember seeing a thread on it somewhere, thought it was M.S.E but can't find it????0

If I was you I'd take it around a few places and get it valued first, find out how much each place is offering as they can vary wildly. I'd avoid the stalls in the likes of Castle Court though.
If you get a price you're happy with, go for it.The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
This is the link to a specific Hatton Garden Metals thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2084905 but if you do a search under Forums (at the top of the page) there are a few threads on selling gold.
I felt the same about sending it in the post, but I would only have got about half of what HGM were offering had I taken it to somewhere local. I did quite a bit of research on them before sending it all off, but I was very nervous until the cheque arrived!0 -
if you know the gold content and quality, you could also try selling it on EBAY. if you make it clear you are selling for the gold content, there is a big customer base of people buying gold0

Another vote for Hatton Garden metals. They are very efficient and quick, and best prices. Local jewellers offered me a very poor deal in comparison. I wouldn't worry about giving them your bank details, if you give someone a cheque they have the same details! The money from Hatton Garden metals was in my bank account less than 24 hours after I posted the items to them0

A friend was selling gold last year, and found that the best prices in Belfast were from jewellers, especially if the items were unbroken (they could then put them into stock as "pre-owned"). It just takes a bit of shopping around! They already have the premises, insurance etc covered by the jewellery business and so can afford to offer a bit extra than high street gold-buying businesses who have to cover all their costs from the profit they make on re-selling or melting down the gold.0
