how to get rid of snails?

I have a snail living in my living room. I don't know where it hides during the day, but everything near the patio door is covered in dried snail-trail every morning....

I would appreciate some advice on how to oust the little freeloading molluscy lodger. I can't very well serve him with a section 21 notice as 1. I'm not his landlord and 2. snails can't read.

how do I get rid of a snail when I don't know where it's hiding. would prefer not to use chemicals as I have a five year old tiny human in my house.

thanks!!!

and yes, I am serious.

Loads of cheap salt in every gap & crevice, then fill them afterwards.

    hiya

its probably a slug, or slugs, rather than a snail. We have them too and they get everywhere, slimy horrid things urghhh.

You need to try to work out where they are coming from really.

I reckon ours were coming from under the floor, as there is a massive gap (like an inch high) between our floor and the skirting. Either that or near the chimney. or round the radiator pipes.

I tried filling all gaps under the skirting/fireplace etc with rolled up newspaper but it kept getting moved when i hoovered etc so i decided on duct tape! I now have a line of duct tape covering up the gap between my floor and skirting, they cant get through that!!! you can get brown duct tape apparently, mine is orange :D haha

Salt is ok, it dissolves them though so you get manky slug goo everywhere!

also, dont leave out any food or rubbish that they will be attracted to.

    good luck :)

Just put some pellets out in a small pile before you go to bed and clean up in the morning.

    Sorted.

There's some parasite that dogs can get as a result of doing this; please look it up.

OP- Just had to say thanks for the giggle! Had a rough day and your post made me smile :-)

  • Maybe you could do the gardeners trick of putting out something that would attract them , as well as something that they would hide under, collect them in the morning and dispose of them.
  • put down a beer trap (a saucer with a few drops of left over beer or lager will do) they will be attracted to the smell of it - so put a ring of salt around the plate - job done ;)

just need a bit of kitchen roll in the morning - to wipe up the gloop
saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
    made loads last year
