Dead Letterbox

Has anyone ever been asked to use their address as a "Dead Letterbox"?
Consumer intelligence are asking me if I would like to do it.

We are researching insurance companies and need 260 members to let us use their postal address to obtain some quotes for motor insurance.

You will receive no phone calls or any post. If you do, just throw it in the bin. It won't affect your ability to buy car or home insurance or any other product.

Has anyone done it and is it safe to do so?
TIA
:D

not sure who was the company that offered me a fiver to do this but I get loads of these insurance quotes all the time adressed to a list of about eight different names and never got a penny for it

Done it before, got paid, got this one and filled it in ... go for it, it's totally fine

Edit to add - they have also put that not everyone filling the form in will be chosen for the dead letterbox this time
  • I have received this email a few times and when I looked at the info needed I backed out. They wanted far too much information for the sake of a fiver, just not worth it in my opinion.

  • Thanks! Mixed responses so far...
  • I would be very interested in doing this aswell? How do I find out about doing something like this?

I think when I signed up to Consumer Intel, it asked me if I would be interested.
But, after going thru the application process today, like one of the other posters, the details it was asking for seemed a little too personal for my liking. So I've decided not to participate. Can't see why the number of credit cards I have/don't have, personal loans etc is relevant? Perhaps I'm missing something here? For the sake of a fiver, no thanks!

They emailed me today, and I began their questionnaire. It was on an open site -- no https:// -- and asked for far too many details. So I didn't finish it.

    Me too today. No thanks!

  • Me too - did it years ago and I'm STILL getting letters/insurance quotes + goodness knows what else.

It actually made me wonder and worry if someone had got hold of my details OR someone was having stuff delivered to my place when we weren't here. Made me quite paranoid as I was getting so much and still am!

For peace of mind - DON'T DO IT!

It's been a total pain & goodness knows who some of the companies sell the 'wrong' info to. I reckon they sell it on to LOADS of dubious places.

Considering I joined the mailing preference service to avoid things like this I must have totally had a blind moment when I signed up to this at least 3 yrs ago. They said you wouldn't get mail BUT you do, copious amounts of it from everyone to just about everyone.

It's been a TOTAL pain as some of the names are the same or similar to neighbours so initially I was running around and giving them their mail - which of course they looked strangely at as they hadn't asked for quotes etc.
