Optician won't give me my contact lens prescription...

hello all, I asked my optician, Boots, for my contact lens prescription the other week... to no avail.
They did however give me my normal glasses Px...useless to me!

I understand that they must give you it on demand as per confidentiality and patient information rules. But they can withhold it if you are on a 'trial' period with the lenses.

My predicament is that the optician claims I am still on a lens trial period despite having a 2 week free trial and then having to purchase 3 months worth of lenses and solutions. She told me I can't have my details till I have an aftercare appointment in January at a cost of £35

Not very happy with the service I have received! I need my Px due to moving to Asda as they are much much cheaper!

Any help would be great!
Thanks

I'm not 100% sure but is all the info not on the contact lens boxes? If you still have them I would take them into Asda & explain the situation. They may even contact Boots for you.
    Booo!!!
  • I do have the box, but what's stopping me from lets say taking my mates lens boxes? :/ I might just get asda to do another contact assessment for me...

I'm just annoyed that boots are withholding my personal data from me and thus preventing me from going elsewhere to sort my contacts out. It's a pita. :(

Why would they? It's a free trial and not a free fitting? They are only obliged to issue with a specification once they are satisfied that the lenses are suitable for your eyes and your eyes are suitable for them. There is a cost involved in fitting, which they would understandably wish to charge for.
Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

  • you dont have a contact lens Rx as such at the moment as you havent had your follow up to check that the Rx is correct. i would just go to Asda and get another appointment. they may prescribe a different lens which is a different size and may be a slightly different Rx you need depending on your eyes and is there is any astigmatism etc...

I'd give up on Boots and start afresh at Asda. The assessment and follow up there is only £15, so you'll save money as well.
