Hubby is a taxi driver and needs a sat nav.
He wants one that you can just input the street name, not the postcode,
does anyone have any ideas as to which is the best and cheapest around that suits our needs.

If he's looking for a new mobile as well then some of them have that too so he could combine the 2.
I've read somewhere on here that ToysRUs are doing 1 for £49 but i dont know the make but from what i've heard they are in the cheap bin in the stores.Always looking for a bargain and to help0 -
A sat nav for £49

I was always under the impression that taxi driver actually had to know where they were going without sat nav?
Tom tom will allow him to enter many different options for the destination
city centre, street and house number (you can leave the number and select anywhere) full 7 digit post codes crossings/intersections. most of them require the city to navigate to the location so you cant just enter a street name.
Also he could load points of interest like super markets, restaurants, bars etc so he can quickly fine places like that.
so what options does he have?
buy a PDA and install tom tom 6 a great package as he has the sat nav and all the additinal functions of a pda and is my personal choice. I have a PDA with phone edition from orange the SPV m3100 O2 have the xda voda and tmobile also have their own braded ones, they are almost the same under the skin. and can be got on free upgrades
buy an all in one tom tom go, they all have slight benefits over each other, check out https://www.tomtom.com and educate yourself on the differences bettwen them all the 910 is fantastic but a waste if you not gonna use it in oterh countries. most of the features like bluetooth are gimmicks I think and not really essential.
the navman systems seem ok, I have been playing with one the last few weeks I wasnt a fan of the smart ST nav software so I stuck tom tom 6 on it, the gps was poor so I connected an antenna to it and it was miles better.
when you know which one you want, wanting to navigate to a street isnt really a dificult thing for sat nav to do so you could proberbyl hunt down one of the £50 jobbies from toysRus and it will navigate you to a street but It doent have a touch screen and the maps may be out of date.0
