Mortgage Redemption Charges

I am currently changing my mortgage company and have been charged £150 for a Redemption Statement. The remortgage didn't go through by the end of the month and a new statement was ordered by my conveyancer to which I have been charged a further £150. When the mortgage is redeemed I will be charged another deeds release fee of £150.

I feel that to be charged £300 for 2 statements which amounts to two pieces of A4 paper is disproportionate to the costs involved in producing them.

Could I pursue a refund in the same way as the banking charges claims are argued or is this exclusive to banking charges only.

  • What lender is this?

Have you got their tariff of charges? Have you checked their website for the costs? If they told you the costs when you took out their mortgage and they have keept you up to date by sending you any contract changes then you are stuck with them. They cannot be compared to like bank charges. Even though they are very unfair and high.

Going by the amount it sounds like a "non - high street" lender. Some do charge those kind of fees.
