What does a closing date mean?

If a job with a council (leisure trust) states "closing date: Wednesday 9th November 2011", will an application form emailed on that date be accepted?

It depends on there definition of the date set, if you email tonight and then ask for a confirmation then it should be fine, I would send one tonight and then duplicate the email in the morning.0

I applied for a job at 9pm on the Friday it closed, and I got an interview!Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Where I work, closing date means 5pm (close of business) on the date specified.0

It's likely that someone will go in next day after the closing date, and sort the applications received by then so that any sent on the closing date at any time will be accepted.0

You can't rely on emailing on the closing date: I'd at least try to get it in BEFORE start of business tomorrow.Signature removed for peace of mind0
