OP, apart from the lunch break that you mention, do you have any other breaks during the working day?

Hi, No, no other breaks allowed

  • Absolutely! When I worked construction we not only couldn't take a lunch, there was usually nowhere to take it anyway. So we worked through.

Not anymore. Being in construction now, there are nice site huts now with a microwave, a kettle and a fridge! Luxury some would say :p

If you don't want to say anything to your boss, I would get up and walk around every now and then. Your eyes will melt otherwise! :p

Not in my line of work; most which was site investigation [hence no huts, loos, or any such luxuries].
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

And as you are not prepared to say/do anything about it that's why they do it. Dress it up anyway they like they are breaking the law and I know i'd rather be out of work.
Can't you see that a new employee can't change anything. When she complains she'll simply get the sack and still nothing will change. Maybe those workers who have been there more than a year are the ones who should be doing something.

Come on, it's not rocket surgery is it?

To be fair two out of the other three staff only working part time so probably don't mind as they finish work at 3 anyway.

Thank you to everybody who responded and sorry for wasting anybodies time.
    you can - speak up

    and show them this

    or

Employers are required by the Working Time Regulations to ensure that workers take a rest break. Under the regulations, workers who work more than six hours a day are entitled to a rest break of not less than 20 minutes, which must be uninterrupted and should be spent away from the work station. For younger workers (under the age of 18) who work more than four and a half hours a day, they are entitled to a further 10 minutes – 30 minutes in total, which should also be taken away from their work station.

and then they will get the sack, no?

Unlikely an employee who has more than 12 months (and all three have worked there 5+ years) service will be sacked because as you quite rightly say they are breaking the law. 2/3 staff finish at 3 anyway so probably not bothered about not being able to get to the bank etc.

However as a new employee the likelihood is my services will no longer be required/work not up to scratch and that would leave me with no job, no money and in a worse off situation so I think its best if I just finish on this note.

    Thank you everyone
