Waiting for new job to start

After a month on the JSA I have been offered a job! :j
The thing is, the start date isn't for another couple of weeks. This is the first time I've ever claimed JSA so I'm not too familiar with the signing off process. I've been to the JC+ three times now - once for the new claim, once just to "sign on" and once last week for my 1 month review. I know I can fill in the section about signing off and put down an advance period but I still have to go in to sign on again before I start the new job. If I'm honest, I can't really actively seek work in the next couple of weeks, although I can do some research for the new job and put that in my job diary. Do you think they will mind if I don't apply for the requisite number of positions as I am starting a new job soon? I don't want to be accused of breaching my job seekers agreement but I could use the JSA for another couple of weeks.
Cheers

I've never been in that position before but as your job doesn't start for 2 weeks aren't you entitled to sign on as you could legitimately be looking for a job to tide you over until your new job starts?
Well done on the new job by the way.0 -
don't sign off right till the end and you do not need to tell the job centre you have a job till then. Just do everything as per your agreement and if there is only one more signing on till you sign off then that's ok. IF you get a job interview you obviously don't have to go or tell the job centre, just sign off and start your new job
good luck0 -
You need to maintain your jobsearch in order to receive payment up until the day before you start work.
JSA is paid in arrears and you have to be actively seeking work in order for it to remain in payment.
Surely you can do some job search for a couple more weeks. Searching online, emailing cvs etc isn't that hard.0 -

Agreed, plus no job is definite until you walk in the door on the first day. I wouldn't stop searching until I was 100% sure the job was mine!

It's fine. When you next go to sign, just tell them you have a job starting on x date but that you are still available for work before that date. Maybe do some token jobseeking activities to ensure you adhere to the jobseekers agreement. I've done this before and they didn't care tbh, they were prob just glad I had got something starting soon. Then fill in the form at the back of the booklet before you start work and send it in to them.0

I told them that I had a job starting in a month and continued to check websites and the newspaper until I signed off - two more signings I think. I rang the special signing off line on the day I started work and signed off for the day before. Congratulations on the new job and good luck with it.250

I think the search will shift from a full time job to a casual job to fill the time to the start of the new job. It's fine. Sure. I guess where I was coming from is, so long as you are not sitting completely idle until your new job and can show that you are still looking for work, I don't think anyone at JC+ will penalise you if you are not going at it hammer and tongs. Just do enough to cover yourself in case you need to show that you still stuck to the jobseekers agreement.0

Hi there,
I may as well just enquire here rather than make another thread. I'm in a similar position too. At the moment, I'm claiming JSA but I have just recently passed an assessment and got the job!
The thing is, is that I only start in February, so a bit of a longer wait. In the meantime I do intend to keep looking for work even if it is the odd Xmas shift. Will I still be eligible to claim?
Thanks!0 -

Well you can claim as you haven't started yet but you need to actively look for work0
