Probation Period

Could some one comment on the specifics of having a probationary period.
I have been 3 months in my current job and on my terms and conditions it states they will let me know whether I have passed or not after 3 months.
My supervisor said not to worry as she said I am doing well.
But so far I have not heard anything and I am into my 4th Month.

Unless you have a pay rise or additional perks based on completing it, they're pretty pointless as employment law allows a company to dismiss someone without reason for the first 12 months anyway so I would only consider myself home free after that.0

Thanks for your reply.
I believe in April 2012 the 1 year ruling re:having additional rights is moving to 2 years.0 -
I am sure they should confirm you have passed and are a full time permenant memeber of staff. Was does your contract say? You may not be entitled to the beneifts etc if you are still on probation?0

Contract stated that the company will inform you after 3 months
that your probation period is complete.
The company state they are making changes but still you should be
told whether they are going to keep you.0 -

They are going to keep you, until they tell you otherwise. But whether they tell you they are going to keep you or not, they are still able to change their minds and dismiss you for any reason up to 12 months in (24 months as from April next year).0 -
true but what I am saying is as a person on probation you may not be able to get benefits like other staff so they have to confirm you are either not on it anymore or are still on it. At my last job girl was kept on probation for 1 year as she was always late to work and as a result could not get a season ticket loan for travel as she hadnt passed the probation period even though some had been there less time and had passedThey are going to keep you, until they tell you otherwise. Does the rule apply to those people who are already in their first 12 Months? Or is just for those people who start their Job on the 1st April next year?0 -

they haven't announced that detail yet. It could mean that people with protection leading up to April suddenly lose it, or as you say they could introduce it for new starters only. Latter complicates it for employers though so I would put money on former.0
