  • Totally agree, and for me the first years data will hopefully end the obsession and good energy efficient habits will have become second nature so we get the most benefit from having solar pv.

Daily output figures are irrelevant but I do understand that people who have been suckered into buying expensive monitors feel the need to constantly check them. I wonder how many months or years it will take for the novelty to wear off?

I dont have an "expensive monitor". I just look at the Generation meter at the end of the day and write the figure down (into a spreadsheet). That tells me how much I have made in the day. Works OK until I go on holiday ;-)

    Cheer up ;)

    Each to their own...
  • I actually think my "obsession" has made me much more aware of our households electrcity usage which can only be a good thing. I'm sure we will have saved quite a bit of money just by our new awareness.... I can certainly see our usage has gone down from this time last year (pre solar pv) so that can only be attributable to our awareness and probably a bit due to the weather being milder perhaps. I'm hoping the novelty doesn't wear off just yet!
  • Another thing...

As my inverter etc is in the loft a monitor is essential, for example, I would not know if for some reason there was an issue therefore not exporting. I know someone that happened to, their system did not export for several months over the summer, lost £000.00s

Nope, only the generation meter and a spreadsheet for me!

Best not forget about the solar PV system too much while it does it's thing, or you might forget to claim your FIT payments.;)

Same here  and subsequently changing habits so that we save through using our solar energy wisely.

I read one three or four weeks ago. 'contractor just finished but only an hour of sun left so I'm frantically running around charging things up'. Wonder if she's still doing that.
  • Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that people shouldn't be checking that their Solar PV system is working but that can be done by simply looking at the front display of the inverter (unless your installer took the easy option and stuck it in the loft), and if you want to track the amount of solar energy being generated then the generation meter is more than sufficient.

Why pay an additional few hundred quid for a remote monitor which will probably be discarded in a few years time when the novelty wears off?

    My money. My decision.

More money than sense it seems.
