According to the New Zealand Government:-

    http://www.doc.govt.nz/conservation/native-plants/harakeke-flax/

Harakeke was the name given to this plant by Maori. The first European traders called it "flax" because its fibres were similar to that of true flax found in other parts of the world. Though we still call it flax today, harakeke is really a lily. It is unique to New Zealand and is one of our oldest plant species.
  • I'm not sure on the answer given by the OP but I also don't think its a lily.

Lillies are herbaceous flowering plants of the Liliales order whereas the Harakeke is an evergreen perennial from the Asparagales order.

    I got Lily from here

It says "harakeke is really a lily. It is unique to New Zealand and is one of our oldest plant species. "

Not 100% sure what they want as an answer though

I went with "Flax" as it mentions it in the blurb at the top of the comp
