I have bought a couple from ebay and they were great, not original Samsung ones but just as good and less than half the price.0

I'm not sure how important it is to change the filter as soon as the red indicator light comes on.
We got our Samsung side by side 2 years ago, and the red light came on after a few months but we never bothered changing the filter. The water still tastes completely pure (not like our tap water), and we use it for all our drinking water on a daily basis.
I'm not sure how the indicator light gets its information that the filter needs replacing, since the filter is located externally and has no electrical connections to the fridge, but I think it's a little on the over-cautious side.
Are there any experts out there who could clarify?0 -

Hi
I have a samsung side by side plumbed in ...I read lots of stories on web that the filter comes on automatically every 6 months. I estimated how much water we use very roughly and only change the filter when I estimate that we are somewhere in that range.....or it starts to look cloudy!
My filters say good for 2000 litres or 6 months. so I reset the red light and carry on until I feel I need to !YNWA JFT96 :A0 -
i have always wondered is it necessary to change the filter or use on at all unless you live in an area with bad water.
For example the water out the taps where i stay is fine to drink if i had on of these side by sides would i need to change or need a filter.0 -

Off topic slightly, but does anyone know where I can get a replacement ice tray / ice cube maker tray for my side by side samsung ? It is one of the ones that does not have the door access.
Thanks in advanceIf at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.0 -

unfortuantly i've got to go for one of the internal ones which cost £35 instead of £8
its not been changed for over 12 months and we have hard water here so best take the plunge0
