bank help

Hi all,

Firstly this website is a godsend,

I have just started a Debt Management Plan with Payplan, and as HSBC my current bank is one of my creditors, I need to get a new bank account for my wages. Due to my credit rating, I applied for Natwest Basic Account - Step account but have found out today it has been declined. I'm really worried that this means no bank will let me even set up a basic account with them and don't know what this will mean to my plan. If anyone else has had similar problems or knows of accounts I could try I would be grateful of any help.
Trying to get all my debt sorted and really stressed I can't do the first step.

Thank you

Have a look in the current accounts part of this site and find a thread called Citibank recent applicant? Sorry, useless at doing links! Lots of people with poor credit have applied and been accepted with them, as long as you don't ask for an overdraft. Otherwise I'm on a DMP and am with the Co-op. I have a Cashminder account. No cheque book but you get a Visa Electron card which is handy.

  • Hi Rosalie,

We're in a similar situation, and managed to open an a/c with Alliance and Leicester. Also Payplan should be able to give you a list of banks that might accept you.

If you're looking at opening accounts, sign up to Quidco.com and get some cashback too! This is certainly true for CitiBank and maybe for others.
